How Liberal Or Conservative Are You?

I got this over at Lady Strathconn’s blog. I don’t often do these, but. . . . okay, let me rephrase that. I don’t often do these AND PRINT THE RESULTS FOR YOU TO SEE (I share with Beth but no one else), but this one intrigued me. You see, I consider myself extremely liberal in some areas and extremely conservative in others, with a score of fence-straddler in many categories. What surprised me was the “personal responsibility” category, because I firmly believe that each person is personally responsible for 99% of his/her life’s decisions, choices, and consequences. So, where did that score up there come from? Oh well, at least I averaged what I thought I would, and I didn’t lean completely either way, for there be disaster!

Excuse me for just a moment:

YOU WANT PRIVILEGES AND LOTS OF “STUFF”? GET OUT THERE AND EARN THEM: EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. NOBODY DESERVES AN ENTIRELY FREE LUNCH, EVEN PEOPLE WHO QUALIFY FOR IT. SWEEP THE FLOOR. RAKE THE PLAYGROUND. COUNT LIBRARY BOOKS. WASH LOCKERS. PICK UP TRASH ALONG THE HIGHWAY. VOLUNTEER AT A FOOD BANK. HELP OUT AT THE POUND. TUTOR SOME KIDS AFTER SCHOOL. WALK DOGS. DO SOMETHING TO JUSTIFY YOUR EXISTENCE AND EARN YOUR KEEP. AFTER YOU WORK, YOU MAY EAT.

YOU WANT PRIVILEGES AND “STUFF” TO FALL FROM THE SKY INTO YOUR LAP WITHOUT YOUR HAVING TO TURN A HAIR TO GET THEM? START RUBBING LAMPS, BOZO. EMERSON WAS RIGHT. “THE HIGHEST PRICE YOU CAN PAY FOR SOMETHING IS TO GET IT FOR NOTHING.” HOW MUCH IS YOUR SELF WORTH, WORTH?

ANSWER? “NOTHING,” UNLESS YOU EARN EVERY BIT OF IT.

I’m back now. Sorry about the hissy fit up there; sometimes, people who want something for nothing just really get to me. And I’ve had it up to HERE dealing with people who demand exceptions and privileges and honors they did not earn. And no, I am NOT a cold person.

Why, no, I’m fine, thank you. This is really me. Now you know why I don’t do politics as a general rule. It brings out the beast in me.
