Every day, thousands of students who haven’t done the work, can’t read, can’t write, can’t pass a test, show nothing but disrespect for learning, have cheated, manipulated the system AND their parents, and are just generally and ethically and morally and academically UNDESERVING of a diploma, are graduated from an accredited high school and given a diploma that is supposed to symbolize completion of and good work done in all aspects of high school. In other words, we give bums that which they did not actually earn. All it usually takes is a few whines, excuses, letters of the alphabet, and parental threats.
But let a student work hard, make excellent grades, pass all required tests with flying colors, and go far above and beyond the simple requirements, and we shrug our shoulders and say, ‘sorry, no can do.’ And when this student produces various proofs of accomplishment, we shrug our shoulders and tell him that his ‘stuff’ is too complicated to understand.
I believe that THIS is inexcusable. Please visit the Education Wonks (I hang out there every day!!!!) and put your two cents in. While you’re there, click on the link at the bottom of the article and tell this community they’re making fools of themselves and everybody in the world is reading about them. Not that it would be anything new.
And while we’re at it, let’s all contact Rotary and ask them to explain why their Exchange Student policies are so asinine.
Thankyouverymuch.
P.S. I’m still mad, but I’m trying to focus.
